Via Tre Armi, another important access to the Venetian walls, was an ancient patrol road that allowed control and defence of the city. It connected with the road leading to San Vigilio Castle, and it ran at the foot of the bastion in which three shields (known as the ‘tre armi’) were kept. At the beginning of last century, the street was demolished and moved to the route of the present-day salita di San Vigilio. The street was also an important link between Porta S. Alessandro and Porta S. Giacomo.
It is useful to remember that on Saturday 22 June 2024, a new pedestrian connection road to Città Alta was inaugurated, which uses Via Tre Armi. Through the sortie of the Baluardo di San Giovanni, thanks to the construction of a new connection approximately 3 metres wide, 36 metres long and with a difference in height of approximately 4.8 metres, it now allows you to reach the UNESCO heritage Venetian walls directly from inside an ancient gunboat with an overall height difference of approximately 50 metres. A certainly suggestive and fascinating route, another piece and added value that this city, a true open-air museum, offers today to tourists and residents.
The opening hours and days of the gunboat are:
- Saturday, Sunday and holidays,
- from 11am to 5pm and in groups of maximum 15 people and with a frequency of approximately 10 minutes.
