Where to go shopping in Bergamo: streets, events and places you shouldn’t miss
21 July 2025
Bergamo is not only an artistic city, but also a place of entertainment and pleasure for those who love shopping.
Whether you are visiting Bergamo or live there, shopping can be an opportunity to explore the city with fresh, curious eyes. From high-end fashion boutiques to historic shops, from large shopping centres to special events, Bergamo offers a fascinating combination of tradition and modernity.
In this guide, we will discover Bergamo’s shopping streets, such as the Quadrilatero della Moda and Sentierone, unmissable events such as Sbarazzo, and new urban realities such as Chorus Life, without forgetting the most popular shopping centres.
Where is the main shopping street in Bergamo?
Quadrilatero della Moda
In the Lower Town, Via XX Settembre is the main pedestrian area and the city’s main shopping street, bustling with well-known brands such as Max Mara, Victoria’s Secret, Liu Jo, Carpisa, Kiko, Benetton, Intimissimi, Boggi, Furla, Falconeri, Mango, Swatch and many others.
However, it is by exploring the side streets that you will discover the true soul of Bergamo, with independent shops and studios that promote local craftsmanship and the creativity of young designers. In Via Borfuro, for example, you will find M’Gibi, with sophisticated clothing for adults, SEEDS, Catellani & Smith, Landi 2 The Lab.

Via XX Settembre Bergamo
Via SantβOrsola is home to the elegant shop windows of Rockβnβrose, the ideal store for those looking for a feminine and original style. Not far away, between Largo Rezzara and Via SantβAlessandro, there are Spin Off and Valentina Ravasio, two stores offering carefully selected international collections and some niche brands.
For vintage lovers, a visit to DannyRu, a distinctive and unusual clothing store, is a must. Bergamo’s Quadrilatero della Moda is therefore a must-see destination for those looking for fashion, quality and personality.
Sentierone
What other shopping streets are there in Bergamo? It is not strictly speaking a shopping street, but we cannot fail to mention the Sentierone, the historic promenade surrounded by arcades with several cafΓ©s, such as the historic Balzer cafΓ© and pastry shop founded in the year 1850.
The Sentierone is also a key venue for events, making it the perfect place to combine shopping and relaxation under the arcades. Every Monday, the Sentierone hosts the city market, with several stalls selling affordable clothing and fresh local produce, allowing consumers to meet producers face to face and to learn about their stories.

Via Torquato Tasso and Via Pignolo
Also in the Lower Town, just a few steps from Porta Nuova, there are Via Torquato Tasso and Via Pignolo, two of Bergamo’s most elegant and charming streets. Paved in stone and lined with aristocratic buildings and period architecture, these streets offer a more intimate and refined shopping experience than the nearby Via XX Settembre.
The shop windows of Via Tasso and Via Pignolo are never boring: they house research boutiques, independent ateliers and creative spaces that offer quality garments, handmade or from small Italian fashion houses.
In addition to its boutiques, Via Tasso is also home to art galleries, bookshops, historic cafΓ©s and some of the city’s best restaurants.
For those who love musical instruments, in Via Pignolo we can also find the workshop of Matteo Pontiggia, a talented master luthier from Bergamo.

Borgo Santa Caterina
Once considered a declining neighbourhood, Borgo Santa Caterina is now experiencing a real renaissance, and it has become one of the most dynamic and popular places in the Lower Town of Bergamo.
In the last few years, this neighbourhood has experienced a strong urban revaluation and redevelopment, thanks to the opening of independent boutiques, alternative clothing shops, artisanal workshops and award-winning ice cream parlours.
Residents and visitors fill the Borgo, especially during the aperitif hours, attracted by the many pubs, wine bars and cocktail bars that animate the area. During the summer, the βVenerdΓ¬ del Borgoβ, cheerful evenings of music and flavours, come to life here.
Where can you go shopping in the Upper Town of Bergamo?
Via Colleoni and Via Gombito form the ancient decumanus of the CittΓ Alta, the Upper Town of Bergamo: among traditional shops and boutiques, here you can find typical products, local artisans, ceramics and handmade jewellery, in a setting with a medieval and sometimes fairy-tale atmosphere, which continues until Piazza Mercato delle Scarpe.
If we continue past the historic Pozzo Bianco brewery, even in Via Porta Dipinta we can find, here and there, small shops with an artistic and curious soul, perfect for those who like to get lost among unusual details and unique pieces.

Shopping centres and shopping in the surrounding area
Orio Center Bergamo
Orio Center, located near the Bergamo Caravaggio-Orio al Serio airport, is the largest shopping centre in Lombardy. With more than 280 shops and about fifty restaurants, it is a real shopping city.
Here you can find top international brands such as Zara, H&M, Nike, Adidas, Levi’s; luxury and high-end brands such as Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Armani, Swarovski; and electronics shops such as MediaWorld, Apple Store and GameStop.
Ideal for shopping in Bergamo on a rainy day, Orio Center is perfectly connected to the city centre by direct and regular buses.
Alle Valli Shopping Center
Located only 10 minutes from the centre of Bergamo, in the municipality of Seriate, the Alle Valli shopping center is a valid alternative for those seeking convenience, variety and a large parking area. With more than 50 shops, it is the ideal choice for everyday and family shopping.

Events you should not miss
Sbarazzo
Organised by the Distretto Urbano del Commercio di Bergamo and by the BergamoInCentro Association, Sbarazzo is an event in which city shops offer discounts and special deals.
2025 sees its tenth edition, with around 100 participating shops in the main streets of CittΓ Bassa, CittΓ Alta, Borgo Santa Caterina and Borgo Palazzo.
On Sunday, the event is extended to the Sentierone and Piazza Matteotti, which come alive with around 50 gazebos, turning into an open-air fair with social and cultural initiatives as well.
Chorus Life Project
ChorusLife is the new urban and commercial hub created on the site of the former OTE, and it opened in November 2024. Here, a pedestrian area was created, with shops, bars, restaurants, a large indoor arena for events, hotels, residences, a gym, a medical centre and soon a large City Spa.
Among the shops in the shopping gallery there are DM, Arcaplanet, Decathlon and OVS. It is a new landmark for the city, where shopping is integrated with cultural and leisure activities, just a few minutes from the city centre.
Markets and vintage: the alternative side of shopping
If you prefer a more sustainable or creative shopping experience, Bergamo also offers weekly markets and vintage fairs. Periodically, especially at weekends, antiques markets or vintage-themed events are organised in the city centre.
Another shop that is worth mentioning is the EstrΓ² Outlet Bergamo, a small boutique located in the Galleria Fanzago in the Lower Town, excellent for those looking for unique or local pieces. For comic book lovers, we recommend Star Shop Bergamo, just a few steps from Porta Nuova.

Shopping in Bergamo: tips for shopping
The city offers options for every budget. To fully enjoy the shopping experience in Bergamo, we recommend spending the morning or early afternoon in the Lower Town and the Quadrilatero della Moda, ideal for a full immersion among boutiques and big brands, passing also by Via Tasso and Sentierone.
In the late afternoon, you can then treat yourself to a trip to the heart of the Upper Town: among historic views and small craft shops, here the experience will become even more fascinating.
You can experience it on foot or by taking a Tuk Tuk for an original day of window shopping, sightseeing and food stops. Click on the link below to discover all the Tuk Tuk Tours in Bergamo.
While you are shopping, the advice is also to take some time to enjoy a coffee or a local specialty in one of the many pastry shops or cafΓ©s in the centre.
Finally, don’t hesitate to ask questions: Bergamo shopkeepers are often passionate about their work and they will be happy to offer personalised advice, tell the story of their products or help you choose the right size.
